The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has reminded depositors to submit their Unique Identification Numbers to Licensed Banks and Licensed Finance Companies (LFCs) before December 31, 2024. This mandatory requirement, issued under the Banking (Special Provisions) Act, No. 17 of 2023, is essential to ensure continued access to banking services and eligibility for compensation under the Sri Lanka Deposit Insurance Scheme.
The CBSL highlighted that individuals and institutions who fail to provide the required identification documents may face delays or even an inability to claim insurance compensation if a bank or finance company’s license is revoked. Sri Lankan citizens must submit their National Identity Card (NIC) number, while non-Sri Lankan citizens must provide passport details. Institutions are required to provide their respective registration numbers based on their entity type.
