The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed a strong rebound today (15), with the benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) climbing 183.55 points, or 1.14%, to close at 16,314.79. The S&P SL20 Index, which tracks the performance of 20 leading stocks, also advanced by 61.60 points (1.30%) to end at 4,795.63, reflecting improved investor sentiment across the board.
Market turnover was robust, reaching Rs. 4.55 billion, supported by high volumes totaling over 180 million shares traded during the session.
Lanka Realty Investments PLC led the day's activity, contributing Rs. 467 million to the turnover, while John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) saw a combined turnover of over Rs. 470 million through both crossings and regular trades. Other heavily traded counters included LOLC Holdings PLC (Rs. 280 million) and Commercial Bank PLC (Rs. 248 million).
A total of 138 stocks positively contributed to the ASPI, with major boosts coming from Melstacorp PLC, Sampath Bank PLC , Commercial Bank PLC, Hayleys PLC and Aitken Spence PLC. However, 63 counters posted losses, including Richard Pieris and Company PLC, Dipped Products PLC, Ceylon Grain Elevators PLC, Industrial Asphalts (Ceylon) PLC and National Development Bank PLC.
