INSEE Ecocycle Accelerates Its Sustainability Journey with Electric (EV) Waste Collection Trucks

INSEE Ecocycle Lanka, a leading environmental solutions provider specializing in waste management and circular economy solutions, has marked a significant milestone with the launch of its first fully electric (EV) waste collection truck under the theme “හරිතවත් ගමනක්” (A Greener Journey), marking the first step in a phased transition of its waste-collection fleet to Electric Vehicles.

The first vehicle was officially unveiled at the INSEE Ecocycle facility in Katunayake, in the presence of the Director of INSEE Ecocycle, Eng. Sujith Gunawardhana.

INSEE Ecocycle’s move towards electric waste-collection trucks marks a significant step in decarbonising its logistics operations. By embracing cleaner transport technology, the company aims to reduce operational emissions and the overall lifecycle carbon footprint of the waste it manages. The initiative also strengthens the sustainability commitments made to customers through INSEE Ecocycle’s ISO-certified Integrated Management System, demonstrating how environmental responsibility is being translated into practical, measurable action across the value chain for a greener future.

Commenting on the milestone, the Chief Executive Officer of INSEE Lanka, Eng. Thusith Gunawarnasuriya, said, “This milestone reflects our commitment to embedding sustainability across every aspect of our operations. The transition to electric waste-collection trucks is more than a fleet upgrade; it is a tangible demonstration of our vision to lead the shift towards a lower-carbon future while creating lasting value for our stakeholders and the environment.”

The Director of INSEE Ecocycle, Eng. Sujith Gunawardhana, added, “The ‘හරිතවත් ගමනක්’ theme embodies our determination to embed sustainability into every aspect of our operations while accelerating the delivery of sustainable environmental solutions across Sri Lanka. This milestone marks the beginning of a wider transformation towards cleaner waste logistics, lower emissions, and more responsible resource management, helping to build a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Through this initiative, INSEE Ecocycle is taking another decisive step in its sustainability journey, strengthening its commitment to responsible waste management, resource recovery and meaningful climate action, while contributing to Sri Lanka’s transition towards a cleaner, greener and more resilient economy.
