Port City Colombo Positioned as Strategic Hub for Regional and Global FinTech Expansion

The Sri Lanka FinTech Festival 2026, powered by Visa and organised by FinTech Forum Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy, commenced on 2 November 2026 with a high-level dialogue at Port City Colombo. Convened with the participation of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission and relevant industry stakeholders, the discussion focused on developing a shared vision for advancing Sri Lanka’s FinTech sector, with Port City Colombo positioned as a strategic platform for growth.
The forum brought together international and local FinTech professionals, policymakers, capital-market representatives and investment facilitators to explore the significant opportunities for FinTech development within Port City. Participants recognised its potential to attract regional and international FinTech businesses seeking to diversify their geographical and operational presence, supported by its investor-oriented regulatory framework, strategic location, modern infrastructure and capacity to facilitate internationally focused business operations. These advantages position Port City as a compelling base for FinTech companies looking to expand into South Asian and global markets.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of developing a two-year actionable roadmap to accelerate FinTech development in Port City Colombo. This will be pursued through a collaborative approach involving the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Colombo Port City Economic Commission and relevant industry stakeholders, bringing together policy perspectives, institutional support and practical industry expertise. The collective effort will focus on identifying key priorities, addressing sector-specific requirements and strengthening the enabling environment for FinTech businesses to establish and expand their operations in Sri Lanka.
