Organised as part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, the STC@175 All-Island Schools English Essay Competition has drawn participation from students across the island, showcasing remarkable talent and insight.
We are pleased to announce that the first round of judging has now concluded. Out of the many impressive entries received, 175 submissions from students who composed outstanding essays, have been identified. These students will be invited to participate in the Final round at S. Thomas’ College.
The Finals will take place on Saturday, 28th June 2025, starting at 8.30am, and will be preceded by a special seminar on the topic of ‘construction and writing of English essays’. This seminar is designed to help and provide guidance in the art of writing essays. This, it is hoped, will stand as of value in the students’ future too. The short seminar will also be to benefit the finalists as they prepare for the final stage of the competition.
All finalists will be individually informed, and officially recognised for their achievement.
There will be an awards ceremony for the winning candidates, which will take place on the same day as the Islandwide Oratorical Competition, which event too is organized by S. Thomas’ College. The finals of this will be on September 14th, 2025, the second major event in the calendar for the celebratory 175th year. The venue will again be S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participants and the principals of the various schools for facilitating their participation, and look forward to celebrating the exceptional talent of our young writers at the Finals.
