SLIIT Business School Launches Accounting & Finance Club at Colombo Stock Exchange

SLIIT Business School (SBS) brought academic ambition to the heart of Sri Lanka’s capital market with the inauguration of its Accounting & Finance Club on the trading floor of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The launch marked the establishment of a platform dedicated to connecting classroom learning with financial market insights and preparing students for careers in accounting, finance and corporate leadership.

Established with the Colombo Stock Exchange and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) as founding partners, the club aims to strengthen financial literacy, encourage analytical thinking and deepen students’ understanding of the relationship between financial knowledge and business decision-making.

Commenting on the launch, Professor Renuka Herath Acting Dean of the SLIIT Business School, said, “Understanding accounting and finance requires students to look beyond the classroom and recognise how their knowledge informs decisions in businesses and financial markets. Through the Accounting & Finance Club, we want to encourage that curiosity and help students build the confidence to engage with the professional world.

The initiative places emphasis on developing the next generation of financial leaders, analysts and corporate strategists. Its focus on financial literacy and market awareness supports an approach to education that connects technical understanding with the judgement needed to navigate an evolving business environment.

SLIIT Business School acknowledged the contribution of its founding partners, CSE and CIMA, alongside Gold Sponsors CN Steel, Melwa Conglomerate and Elephant Masconite, whose support made the inauguration possible.

As Sri Lanka’s first AACSB- aligned business school, this launch highlights SBS’s commitment to connecting education with industry and equipping students to apply their learning with greater confidence. Through the Accounting & Finance Club, the school aims to cultivate informed, forward-thinking graduates ready to participate in Sri Lanka’s financial and corporate sectors.
