The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou arranged the participation of 5 prominent Sri Lankan tea-manufacturing companies, located in China, in the Tea Exposition held from 25 to 29 November 2021, hosted by the China Tea Marketing Association and Guangdong Tea Profession Association.

At the fair, varieties of ‘Ceylon tea’ were displayed and sold to visitors after describing their unique origins and quality. Samples of tea were given to taste along with Sri Lankan snacks associated with tea, encouraging many visitors to the stalls to savor and purchase the tea. The Sri Lankan companies were able to find several buyers and make connections with local and international exhibitors and other tea-related entities at the exposition. Sri Lankan tea had been represented several times by prominent tea companies from Sri Lanka at the Tea Exposition in previous years.

The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou Priyangika Dharmasena participated in the Opening Ceremony of the Exposition and visited the Sri Lanka stalls, interacting with visitors like the Representative of the Global Tea Fair Ma Zhilan to discuss the possibility of Sri Lanka’s participation at the Global Tea Fair.

The Tea Exposition is a professional exhibition with domestic and international platforms for international tea companies to facilitate connections with each other and explore new markets for their tea and associated products. The fair has been held annually since 2003 and is well recognized as a local and an international fair in Southern China.

Nearly 1000 prominent local and international tea companies participated in this year’s fair, with over 750,000 professional buyers and visitors. International companies from Nepal, Vietnam and Laos also participated in the Tea Exposition.
