Wasana Trading Company is preparing to establish 100 re-charging centres island-wide where electricity could be obtained to re-charge electric vehicles as easy as at home.
While commenting on this, Wasana Trading Company Director Indika Sampath Merinchige said steps are being taken to establish these ordinary re-charging centres at places like restaurants, supermarkets etc where people normally spend some of their time.
“We have received offers for this from 190 locations. We have chosen 100 out of them. We will begin these ordinary re-charging centres island-wide very soon,” he added.
These re-charging centres are not places where electric vehicles could be re-charged within a short time and also need large investments to begin.
“There are still not that many electric vehicles in Sri Lanka. So, as an initial step starting these ordinary re-charging centres is very important. After re-charging for about one hour, a vehicle could travel some 30 kilometres. This would enable making electric vehicles popular in Sri Lanka,” Merinchige added further.
Vehicles purchased from other companies too could be re-charged at these centres established by Wasana Trading Company, while vehicles purchased from his company would be afforded special concessions, he said.
The government’s attention has by now been drawn towards establishing similar centres where electric vehicles could be re-charged speedily.
