Plans are afoot to construct another rest/service area along the stretch of the Southern Expressway from Pinnaduwa in Galle to Godagama in Matara which is being ceremoniously opened today (15 March). This is to be implemented by the Road Development Authority (RDA).
While speaking to AdaderanaBiz, RDA chairman R.W.R. Pemasiri said, “We have planned to construct this new rest/service area at the Godagama interchange in Matara. At the inception this will not be as large as the rest area at Welipenna. Parking for vehicles, sanitary facilities as well as restaurants is planned for the Godagama rest area as well.”
Mr. Pemasiri added that construction work would begin within a few days.
Preparations have been made for President Mahinda Rajapaksa to ceremoniously open 30 kilometre extension of the Southern Expressway from Pinnaduwa in Galle to Godagama in Matara.
Mr. Pemasiri also said that they believe some 10,000 vehicles would ply this expressway daily from Kottawa to Matara.
