Uber Eats Sri Lanka recently partnered with the Sri Lanka chapter of the Robin Hood Army (RHA), a zero-funds volunteer organization, to support vulnerable communities worst affected by the prevailing economic crisis.

Under this humanitarian initiative, Uber Eats is using its platform to collect dry ration donations from its customers and distributing these donations to the most affected families across Colombo to help them weather the impact of the crisis.

Since September 1, 2022, Uber Eats allows customers to donate dry ration packs by placing orders directly on the app to dedicated RHA collection points across the city. As part of its social impact commitment, Uber Eats matches the value of each donation and procures food packs at the end of each day. RHA volunteers step in and help distribute these donations to the homes of families who need support.

Uber Sri Lanka General Manager Bhavna Dadlani Jayawardana stated that the company is committed to Sri Lanka and helping the communities that it serves. She said, “We are pleased to partner with the Robin Hood Army - Sri Lanka and hope to support families that need it the most at this difficult time.” The donations have been continually rising and the company is encouraging more and more customers to join in. “As a proud Sri Lankan, I would encourage everyone to donate generously and do their bit to help our country emerge stronger from this crisis,” Jayawardena noted.

Meanwhile, RHA - Sri Lanka Chapter’s Volunteer Management Team member, Mohamed Huzam Hussain, has complimented Uber Eats for the timely support and called on the collective strength of Sri Lankans to support the larger community. “We are confident that the popular Uber Eats app will help raise significant donations that our Robins will distribute throughout the city. We would call upon every Sri Lankan to support the most vulnerable in their time of need,” Hussain stated.

The donations are being made in standardized packs of dry rations that are priced from Rs. 1,000/- onwards. The packs consist of rice, dhal, sugar, canned food, milk powder, and dried sprats.

Any Uber Eats user can easily use the app to donate. On the home screen, they can pick a restaurant partner with a green heart which says #DeliveringLove, and choose the food pack that they want to donate. Then they will need to set the delivery address to one of the RHA collection points in Battaramulla, Boralesgamuwa, and Colombo 9. The order can also be tracked until it reaches the selected RHA Collection Point, it added.

Since August 2022, Uber Eats and RHA have been working together to redirect canceled orders to members of vulnerable communities. Last week, Uber had donated USD 200,000 to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to distribute dry rations and life-saving medicines to impacted communities.
