The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has taken steps to register small medium enterprises (SMEs) with the aim of directing the country's IT and IT related services to the international market.
Local IT SMEs that have registered with the AIMs (Access International Markets) national program, a pioneering initiative spearheaded by the Technology Industry Development Division of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), will have the opportunity to move into the international arena, leveraging robust international relations.
Within the past six months, over a hundred IT-SMEs have successfully enrolled in this transformative program. Opportunities have been provided for IT-SMEs to participate in local and international exhibitions, conferences, and workshops. Additionally, they can expand their international market access by connecting with Sri Lankans Expats. Notably, more than 50 accomplished medium-scale IT companies have been granted an array of exclusive concessions under ICTA’s AIMs national program.
The AIMs national program is strengthened by the support of Government institutions such as the Bilateral Chambers of Commerce, foreign embassies, and high commissions representing Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka expects to generate US$ 3 billion from the IT industry by 2024. The Department of Commerce and the Export Development Board have also lent their support to this endeavor.
