Colombo Stock Exchange soars: ASPI surpasses 14,500 mark with turnover exceeding Rs. 8 billion

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed a historic trading session today (16), with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) crossing the 14,500 mark for the first time.

The ASPI surged by 295.10 points, closing at 14,500.44, reflecting a 2.08% increase compared to the previous day. Similarly, the S&P SL20 index climbed by an impressive 105.37 points, or 2.48%, to close at 4,349.82.

In addition to the strong index performance, the CSE recorded an exceptional turnover of Rs. 8.27 billion. Ceylinco Holdings PLC emerged as the top contributor, generating Rs. 1.19 billion in trades. Other significant contributors included John Keells Holdings (Rs. 532 million), Sampath Bank (Rs. 442 million), Hatton National Bank (Rs. 395 million), and Pan Asia Bank (Rs. 352 million).
