Ninewells Hospital has opened Ninewells Eye, a state-of-the-art eye clinic aimed at enhancing access to advanced ophthalmic care. DIMO Healthcare has equipped Ninewells Eye, the newly established eye clinic at Ninewells Hospital, with a comprehensive range of advanced ophthalmic technologies from ZEISS, bringing globally recognised eye-care solutions to the Sri Lankan healthcare sector. As the authorised representative for ZEISS in Sri Lanka, DIMO Healthcare has delivered end-to-end solutions that enhance diagnostic accuracy, surgical precision, and clinical efficiency at this state-of-the-art, fully integrated eye-care centre.
At the core of the surgical setup at Ninewells Eye is the ZEISS OPMI LUMERA 700, a high-precision surgical microscope used for eye surgeries such as cataract procedures, glaucoma treatment, corneal surgery, and retinal interventions. The system provides surgeons with bright, clear, and highly detailed views of the eye, enabling them to perform delicate procedures with greater accuracy and confidence.
Supporting cataract surgery planning is the ZEISS IOLMaster 700, an advanced eye measurement system that quickly and accurately scans both eyes in under a minute. This allows doctors to plan cataract surgeries with greater precision while reducing waiting time and discomfort for patients.
The clinic’s diagnostic capabilities are further enhanced by the ZEISS CIRRUS 6000 with AngioPlex, a state-of-the-art eye scanning system that captures highly detailed images of the retina, optic nerve, and the front of the eye. A key advantage of this technology is its ability to assess blood flow in the eye without injections or dyes, enabling earlier and safer detection of conditions related to diabetes, glaucoma, and retinal diseases.
For glaucoma evaluation and monitoring, Ninewells Eye is equipped with the ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer 3, a globally trusted system that measures a patient’s visual field. Faster testing protocols reduce examination time while enabling healthcare professionals to detect vision loss at earlier stages.
Treatment capabilities are enhanced by the ZEISS VISULAS green yag combi with SLT, a versatile laser platform designed for both glaucoma treatment and retinal care. Its advanced laser technology delivers targeted treatment with greater comfort, shorter sessions, and improved outcomes for patients.
Collectively, these technologies expand the clinical scope of Ninewells Eye, enabling the centre to diagnose and treat a broader range of ocular conditions with greater efficiency and consistency. Patients benefit from faster diagnostics, precise interventions, and seamless care delivered under one roof.
Dr. Vibash Wijeratne, Director and CEO of Ninewells Hospital said, “We partnered with DIMO Healthcare for this expansion based on their ability to combine world-class ZEISS ophthalmic technology with strong local expertise.
