The initiative reinforces safer online access to health and beauty products through improved seller guidance, compliance practices, and transparency

As part of Daraz Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen consumer safety and responsible selling standards, Daraz hosted a focused discussion and internal capacity-building workshop with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to enhance regulatory awareness in the online sale of health, beauty, and cosmetic products.

Held in February, the Daraz-led session brought NMRA officials to engage directly with Daraz teams who work closely with sellers. The workshop focused on the NMRA Act and the regulatory framework governing medicines, medical devices, borderline products, and cosmetics in Sri Lanka. By equipping internal platform and seller-facing teams with clearer guidance on the regulatory landscape, Daraz aims to improve the quality of seller support and enable more consistent compliance practices across regulated categories.

The initiative was designed around three key outcomes: improving regulatory awareness among Daraz teams that engage with sellers, strengthening a compliance-first culture across online health and beauty sales, and reinforcing consumer trust in e-commerce channels for regulated products.

During the session, NMRA officials served as resource persons and provided practical direction on the importance of ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicines and medical products sold online. They also outlined the NMRA’s role in regulating medicines, medical devices, borderline products, and cosmetics, including oversight across the supply chain to safeguard public health.

Commenting on the initiative, Rukshan Xavier, Managing Director of Daraz Sri Lanka said, “At Daraz, building trust in e-commerce means taking ownership of how safety and compliance are upheld on our platform. This workshop is part of our commitment to invest in the capabilities of our teams so they can guide sellers more effectively, set clearer expectations for responsible selling, and ensure customers can shop for regulated products with greater confidence. We appreciate the NMRA for sharing its expertise and helping strengthen industry awareness of the NMRA Act and related requirements.”

Daraz Sri Lanka will continue to invest in education, engagement, and stronger marketplace standards to support a safer and more transparent digital ecosystem for health and beauty products in Sri Lanka, in close alignment with the country’s regulatory expectations and public health priorities.
