March, 4, 2026

Sri Lanka will be represented at a high-level international policy dialogue this week, as Central Bank Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe joins global financial leaders at the Asia in 2050 conference in Thailand.

The High-level Roundtable titled “Bringing Everything Together - Policy Challenges for Asia Going Forward” is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 6, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Bangkok.

The session will feature Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), alongside Malaysia’s Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas. The discussion will be moderated by Haslinda Amin of Bloomberg.

The roundtable forms part of the Asia in 2050 conference, which runs from March 4 to 6 in Bangkok. Organised ahead of the 2026 Annual Meetings, the conference brings together policymakers, experts, and industry leaders from across the region to exchange views on Asia’s long-term growth prospects and emerging policy challenges. The sessions are designed to foster peer learning, collaboration, and innovative thinking around the region’s future opportunities and risks.

The event also serves as a precursor to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group, which will be held in Bangkok from October 12–18, 2026. The Annual Meetings convene central bank governors, finance and development ministers, private sector leaders, civil society representatives, and academics to deliberate on global issues including the world economic outlook, financial stability, poverty reduction, inclusive growth, and job creation.
