Maxtherm Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has secured the Silver Award for Best Energy Efficiency Service Provider at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2025, organised by the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, reinforcing its position as a key player in the country’s energy efficiency landscape. The company, led by Directors Eng. Gaya Siriwardhana and Ajantha Muhamdiram, also emerged as the leading performer in the ‘Best Technology Provider’ category, where no Gold Award was presented, highlighting the strength of its technological capabilities and industry impact. The recognition reflects Maxtherm Lanka’s contribution to improving energy efficiency across multiple industries through innovative engineering solutions. A key initiative introduced by the company enables fossil fuel-powered boilers to switch to biomass boilers using biofuels, delivering cost savings of up to 75%. In addition, energy efficiency improvements and retrofitting of existing units also generate energy savings of up to 35%.
Over the past three years, Maxtherm Lanka has delivered measurable results through targeted technical interventions. These include energy savings equivalent to approximately 8,000 cubic metres of firewood, as well as efficiency improvements in tea factories, where output has been enhanced from one kilogram of tea per kilogram of firewood to two kilograms per kilogram of firewood. In addition, the company has facilitated the conversion of fossil fuel-based boiler systems to biofuel-powered operations, resulting in savings of around 8 million litres of furnace oil and diesel. This transition has generated national cost savings estimated at $66 million over the last three years, while contributing to a reduction of approximately 40 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions and conserving about 140,000 units of electricity. The awards evaluation process considered key performance indicators including energy savings achieved over the past three years, workforce training initiatives, operational efficiency of installed systems, environmental compliance, and human resource management practices.
Founded in 2002, Maxtherm Lanka provides a comprehensive range of boiler-related engineering services, including steam generation, installation, operation, maintenance, and capital solutions. The company currently produces over 200,000 kilograms of biomass steam daily for a wide portfolio of industrial clients. The broader Maxtherm Group, comprising Maxtherm Lanka, Maxtherm Engineering, and Maxtherm Energy Care, continues to focus on advancing sustainable energy solutions and supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards greater energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
