A high-level diplomatic delegation from Sri Lanka, led by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Special Envoy of the President and Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, actively participated in the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance, held from July 06–07 at the Palexpo complex in Geneva, Switzerland.
Established under the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/325, the Global Dialogue serves as the world’s first universal, UN-led platform dedicated to fostering international AI cooperation. The landmark event's opening session featured keynote addresses by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock.
As the global landscape undergoes a rapid transition toward an AI-driven future, the Sri Lankan delegation reaffirmed the nation's steadfast commitment to international cooperation, digital equity, and the establishment of a fair, inclusive, and secure global digital order.
The high-level delegation accompanying the Presidential Special Envoy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya included His Excellency Sumith Dassanayake, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Bandula Herath, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), alongside senior officials from the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Geneva. The delegation maintained continuous and strategic engagement throughout the week (July 06–10), representing the nation across the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, and the AI for Good Global Summit 2026.
