Cargills Block Trades Drive Record CSE Turnover

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) extended its losing streak for a third straight session today (21), with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) closing lower. Despite the decline, market turnover surged to its highest level in recent trading sessions, driven by a series of large crossings in Cargills (Ceylon) PLC shares.

Total market turnover reached Rs. 3.27 billion. Cargills (Ceylon) dominated trading activity, with crossings amounting to Rs. 2.26 billion. The counter also recorded Rs. 62 million worth of trades on the regular market, taking its total turnover for the day to Rs. 2.88 billion.

Melstacorp PLC emerged as the second-largest contributor to turnover, with shares worth Rs. 181 million changing hands.

On the broader market, the ASPI declined by 62.37 points to close at 21,145.73, marking its third consecutive daily loss. In contrast, the S&P SL20 index edged up by 1.79 points to finish at 5,945.01.
