Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, M.K. Pathmanaathan recently visited the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), where he met with senior officials of the Chamber, including Yang Jae Saeng, President of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Executive Vice President, Jung Hyun Min and Executive Director Lee, Kyu Jung, also participated in the meeting representing the Busan Chamber.
The discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding commercial relationship between Sri Lanka and Korea, with particular attention to the existing cooperation between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Ambassador highlighted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two Chambers provides an important institutional foundation for further strengthening commercial relations between Sri Lanka and the Busan business community.
A key focus of the meeting was the promotion of Sri Lanka Expo 2027, Sri Lanka’s premier international trade and business exhibition, scheduled to be held from 14th to 17th January 2027 at BMICH in Colombo.
The Ambassador highlighted that Sri Lanka Expo 2027 is being organized as a major international trade and business platform, bringing together Sri Lankan exporters with international buyers, investors and potential business partners across a wide range of sectors. The Ambassador particularly expressed his interest in securing strong participation from the Republic of Korea, including the business community of Busan. He sought the support of the Busan Chamber in encouraging suitable companies and members of the Chamber to participate in the Expo, explore sourcing and investment opportunities, and establish direct business connections with Sri Lankan companies.
During the meeting, Kasun Balasooriya, First Secretary (Commercial), of the Embassy made a presentation on Sri Lanka Expo 2027, outlining the key features of the Expo, opportunities available for international buyers and investors, and the potential for Korean businesses to explore commercial partnerships with Sri Lankan companies.
