Sri Lanka and India Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation to Enhance National Cybersecurity and Threat Management

A high-level discussion was held today (October 05) at the GovTech premises between (Eng.) Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, and a visiting delegation from the Government of India to address current cybersecurity challenges facing Sri Lanka’s government systems and to deepen bilateral digital cooperation.
The Indian delegation comprised Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Controller of Certifying Authorities at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Mr. Amit A. Shukla, Joint Secretary (Cyber Diplomacy, e-Governance & Information Technology) at the Ministry of External Affairs of India; and Ms. Devika Lal, Counsellor (Economic & Commercial) at the High Commission of India in Colombo.
The meeting focused on leveraging the operational expertise of India's CERT-In to enhance the threat identification and response capabilities of Sri Lanka CERT. Discussions centered on improving the efficiency of threat analysis, strengthening cybersecurity training for both government institutions and the general public, and establishing structured, AI-augmented threat assessment mechanisms.
The Indian delegation shared insights on their collaborative national cybersecurity framework, which emphasizes close coordination among Internet Service Providers (ISPs), government bodies, academia, and private industry, while prioritizing public awareness as a cornerstone of national cyber resilience.
The interaction reaffirmed the strong and growing partnership between Sri Lanka and India in the digital and cybersecurity domains, paving the way for expanded collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared technical expertise moving forward.
