Sri Lanka Official Reserves Drop Marginally to USD 6.85 Bn

Official reserve assets held by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka experienced a minor contraction in September 2026, falling to USD 6,851 million.

This figure reflects a 1.1% decrease compared to the USD 6,929 million recorded at the end of August 2026.

The primary element of the official reserves, Foreign Currency Reserves, dropped by 1.6% during the month, moving from USD 6,714 million in August down to USD 6,607 million in September 2026.

In addition, the value of the Central Bank’s gold reserves decreased by 6.1%, falling from USD 210 million in August to USD 198 million in September.

These official reserve asset figures include funds received under the foreign currency swap facility from the People's Bank of China, which remain subject to specific conditions on usability.
