October, 8, 2026

The European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL) marked its 30th Anniversary at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Members’ Night held at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, bringing together distinguished members, business leaders, industry representatives, stakeholders and partners to celebrate three decades of strengthening economic and commercial relations between Sri Lanka and Europe.

The occasion marked an important leadership transition, with Past President Mr. John Wilson handing over the presidency to newly appointed President Mr. Ahamed ur Rahman. The transition signals a new chapter for ECCSL, building on the Chamber’s achievements while placing renewed emphasis on collaboration, innovation, sustainability and creating greater opportunities for its members.

Reflecting on the past year, President Ahamed ur Rahman highlighted the Chamber’s continued progress in strengthening engagement with European stakeholders, facilitating business dialogue, expanding networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities, and reinforcing ECCSL’s role within Sri Lanka’s business community. He also acknowledged the dedication of the Chamber’s team and members whose collective contribution has been central to its continued growth and resilience.

Founded in 1996, ECCSL has for 30 years served as a platform for promoting and strengthening economic and business relations between Sri Lanka and Europe, including trade and investment. Through its diverse membership, the Chamber facilitates connections, advocacy, knowledge exchange and collaboration while supporting businesses in navigating an increasingly interconnected and rapidly evolving global economy.

Sustainability and responsible business remain important elements of ECCSL’s mission. The Chamber continues to encourage practical approaches to environmental responsibility, social inclusion and responsible business practices, recognizing that sustainable and inclusive growth is essential to building a stronger and more resilient economy.

Following the formal AGM, the Members’ Night provided an opportunity for members and stakeholders to connect in a more informal setting and celebrate the relationships that underpin the ECCSL community.

As ECCSL enters its next chapter, the Chamber remains committed to serving as a bridge between European and Sri Lankan businesses by fostering strategic partnerships, facilitating meaningful dialogue, promoting trade and investment, and creating new avenues for sustainable business growth.

With 30 years of experience behind it and a new chapter underway, ECCSL remains dedicated to strengthening European–Sri Lankan economic relations and contributing to a prosperous, sustainable and inclusive economic future.
