The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has emphatically reinforced its position as Sri Lanka’s leading digital banking innovator, winning three prestigious accolades at the Global Finance World’s Best Digital Bank & AI in Finance Awards 2026.
The Bank won the awards for Best Consumer Digital Bank, Best Mobile Banking App and Most Innovative Digital Bank, at the ceremony held at Raffles Hotel, Singapore. The awards honour excellence in digital banking among financial institutions worldwide, placing Commercial Bank alongside leading international players in an increasingly technology-driven industry.
Commercial Bank was represented at the awards event by Mr Randil Boteju – Chief Digital Officer, Mr. Ramendra Nonis – Manager, Digital Banking Unit (DBU) and Mrs Nadika Nagahawatte – Senior Engineering Manager, IT R&D.
The Global Finance recognition reflects the Bank’s sustained investment in digital transformation, customer-centric technology and advanced research and development, spearheaded by its Digital Banking Unit and IT Research and Development teams. It also underscores the strength of digital innovation in meeting global benchmarks for banking technology, functionality and customer experience, the Bank said.
The Bank’s recognition also places Sri Lanka’s digital banking capabilities on a prominent international platform. At the same ceremony, Singapore-based DBS Bank was named the World’s Best Digital Bank, highlighting the global calibre of institutions recognised by the programme.
According to Global Finance, the winners were selected on the strength of their strategies for attracting and serving digital customers, customer adoption and growth, the breadth of digital product offerings, tangible benefits delivered through digital initiatives, and the design and functionality of their websites and mobile platforms. Winners in sub-categories were assessed on the relative strength and success of their web products and services.
“Digital banking has become one of the most important areas of focus for the financial industry, as banks expand their use of AI, automation and advanced data analytics. Rising expectations for speed, personalisation and seamless digital experiences are pushing banks to innovate, while strengthening security, resilience and regulatory compliance,” said Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance. “Global Finance’s World’s Best Digital Banks 2026 are the institutions setting new standards for digital banking worldwide.”
Commercial Bank’s multi-category success comes as the industry continues to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies to deliver more efficient, responsive and secure financial services. The awards affirm the Bank’s progress in developing a digital banking ecosystem designed to support customers’ everyday financial needs while keeping pace with changing expectations and technological advances.
For customers, the Bank said the awards reaffirm its commitment to continually enhancing its digital services through innovation, functionality and security. For the wider financial services industry, they represent recognition of the capabilities being developed locally to deliver banking experiences aligned with international standards.
The latest honours add to Commercial Bank’s longstanding record of recognition by Global Finance, which named it the Best Bank in Sri Lanka for the 24th time in 2026, as part of its World’s Best Banks 2026 awards. Together, these accolades reflect the Bank’s continued focus on combining established banking strengths with sustained innovation to serve customers and businesses in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
