July, 11, 2016

Eighty per cent of the taxes are imposed indirectly and 20 per cent directly through the existing taxation system. Hence, this system should be changed completely, said Ceylon Chamber of Commerce chief economist Anushka Wijesinha while joining Ada Derana for an exclusive interview.

While commenting further, Anushka Wijesinha said that this should be changed to 80 per cent direct taxes and 20 per cent indirect taxes.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his views on the majority of the British voting at the referendum for Britain to exit the European Union and the impacts that this could cause globally and to Sri Lanka as well. His view is that this would impact on Sri Lanka’s borrowings, aid, bond investments etc from the international markets.
