Signs of Seychelles fish landing in Sri Lanka

Attention has been drawn towards importing fish from the Seychelles for the consumers in Sri Lanka and discussions have already begun on this issue, said Seychelles Trade and Investments Minister Pierre Laporte in Colombo.

Sri Lanka is in the process of strengthening ties with the Seychelles which is a group of islands with fisheries and tourism as its main industries.

An agreement was also signed in the morning of 28 August between the Sri Lanka and the Seychelles Boards of Investment.

Sri Lanka’s fisheries industry in the northern and eastern regions has seen a re-awakening following the end of the war.

According to data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka’s fisheries production has increased by 6.9 percent to 512,840 metric tons.

The population of the Seychelles which is a small country is nearly 92,000 and currently the Bank of Ceylon, the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and Sanken Construction Limited are engaged in their respective business activities in the archipelago.
