Top Professional Ranel Wijesinha’s appointment to SEC yet unconfirmed

Top professional and Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICASL) Past President Ranel T. Wijesinha confirmed to Ada Derana according to sources from Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ministry of Finance that his appointment to be the next Chairman is not yet been confirmed by authorities. He said that currently the Commission had received a proposal to reconstitute from the authorities.

"There are 10 commission members currently they will review all credentials of members and will finalize it", Wijesinha said speaking to Ada Derana today.

However he asserted that according to the sources from Ministry of Finance that his name had been suggested to the SEC Chairman post and yet to be approved.

Through a recent gazette, President Maithripala Sirisena removed the SEC from National Policies and Economic Affairs Ministry headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wikcremesinghe and placed it under the Finance and Mass Media Ministry headed by Mangala Samaraweera.

Wijesinha hails from a family that has connections to both Opposition and Government Big Wigs and circle of top Bureaucratic professionals in the country who has served in Sri Lanka’s both financial and government administration as well as key private sector companies for the last 7 decades in Sri Lanka’s history since independence.

Wijesinha still serve as a Commissioner in the SEC Commission headed by present Chairman Thilak Karunaratne.
