In its ongoing commitment to the environment, Dipped Products PLC (DPL) donated gloves for the national beach cleaning programme conducted by the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), in partnership with the Lions Club of Sri Lanka.
This contribution was in aid of the ‘National Marine Resources Conservation Week 2020’ declared by the Government with a focus on conserving the national marine resources all around the island.
The donation of gloves took place in the presence of Minister of Environment, Mahinda Amaraweera at the Central Environmental Authority recently. The event was coordinated and facilitated by the Lions Multiple District 306 Sri Lanka as part of their ‘Go Green with Lions’ initiative.
The programme will raise awareness on marine pollution and the conservation of marine resources in the country, while being a concerted community building programme focused on nurturing sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with the communities.
As a globally renowned manufacturer and exporter of protective hand wear, DPL is acutely aware of its responsibility to the environment, and this initiative falls in line with its commitment to create a more sustainable future for the next generation.
“Sri Lanka is a country blessed with a vast coastline, fringed with beautiful golden beaches. Today, it is the pollution of these beaches and oceans due to human activities which has led to various environmental and socio-economic problems. For instance, the majority of marine pollution originates from waste which is discharged irresponsibly into waterways or coasts. Hence, educating the public on the significance of maintaining the marine environment and conserving marine resources is of utmost importance. Our teams across the DPL Group donated gloves towards this cause, and we are proud to support the communities in whatever way we can,” DPL Deputy Managing Director, Pushpika Janadheera said.
The donation is only one aspect of DPL’s commitment to promote environmental sustainability, with the Company’s pledge to CSR including tree planting, beach clean-ups, and fertiliser distributions to its smallholder rubber farmers.
