Strong demand, limited quantities and depreciation of the Rupee helped a cross section of teas to achieve a level of price in Rupees previously not seen at the Public Auction.
Dickwella Estate
Dickwella Estate Hali Ela achieved two all-time records in the Uva Medium category. At this week’s sale an Invoice of FBOPF1 was sold at Rs. 1,700 per kg and was purchased by Imperial Teas (Pvt) Ltd. At the same time this estate’s BOPFSP grade achieved at a record price of 1,550/- per kg the line was purchased by Ceylon Tea Marketing (Pvt) Ltd. Dickwella Estate is part of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC. Dickwella Estate is in the very capable care of Regional Manager Mr. Chaminda Perera and the factory by the Veteran A.M Shajahan.
Oodoowerre Estate
Reflecting the strong demand for Uva’s an invoice of Oodoowerre Estate FBOP sold at an all-time record price of Rs. 2,000/-per kg. Oodoowerre Estate is owned by Hapugastenne Plantations PLC, a member of the LOLC Group. This tea was purchased by Enrich Tea & Food Exports Ltd. The manager of this estate is Mr. Shammi Upendra.
Balangoda Estate
In the Uva Medium category an Invoice of BOP1 sold under the Maratenne Mark of Balangoda Estate realized a record price of Rs. 1,950/- per kg and broke the previous record of Rs. 1,500 pr kg for this grade. This tea was bought by Van Rees Ceylon Ltd. Balangoda Estate belongs to Balangoda Plantations PLC, of the Stassen Group, and its Manager is Mr. Lal Ekanayake.
Brombil Estate
A line of Brombil Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) sold at an exceptional price of Rs. 2,000/- per Kilo.
Brombil Tea Factory is located in the Ruhuna Agro climatic sub district and is one of the largest tea producing factories in Sri Lanka. It is located in Pellawatte, Kalutara and manufactures quality Orthodox and CTC black tea.
This factory is a part of the Evergreen Group which comprises thirteen tea factories and is chaired by Mr. Aruna De Silva. Brombil Tea Factory is managed by Director Dr. Indika Nallapperuma, Director Mr. Senal de Silva, Manager Mr. Tyron Rathnayake, Production Manager Mr. Aruna Edirisooriya and Factory Officer Chamil Ruchira.
This line of tea was purchased by Shan Teas (Pvt) Ltd.
Evergreen Tea Factory (Golden Garden)
In the Leafy Grade catalogues an Invoice of Golden Garden OP achieved a Record price of Rs. 2,300 per Kilo. This teas was purchased by Ceylon Tea Marketing (Pvt) Ltd.
Golden Garden teas are manufactured at Ever Green Tea Factory located in Talgaswela of the Galle district. Golden Garden teas are well known for their excellent quality and regularly top the market for many grades sold at the Colombo Auction. This factory comes under Evergreen Group whose board is chaired by Mr. Aruna de Silva.
This factory is managed by Group Director Dr. Indika Nallaperuma (Director), Mr. Senal de Silva (Director), Mr. Lasantha Alwis – General Manager, Production Manager – Mr. P.A Saman Buddika and Factory Manager Mr. W.P Susantha.
Nawagamuwahena Tea Factory
From the Low Grown Sabaragamuwa district an Invoice of Nawagamuwahena Tea Factory BOPSP sold at an highest ever price of Rs. 1,950/- per kg. This tea was bought by Vintage Teas (Pvt) Ltd. This estate is owned by B.V Jayawardena (J.P) managed by Mr. Samitha Dharmawardena.
Mattakelle Estate
Mattakelle Dust1 selling under the Western High Grown category realized an All Time Record price of Rs. 1,300 per kg. This tea was purchased by MPCS Homagama.
Mattakelle Estate, on many occasions has been recognized, both nationally and internationally for their commitment to quality. Teas sold under this mark continually achieve top prices at the public auction for a wide range of Orthodox Black tea grades.
The Estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys Group of companies. This estate is managed by Senior Manager Mr. Dulshanka Jayathilaka.
