The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) with the focus of strengthening the ties with the leading industry bodies to advance management & contemporary business education and competencies of the local & regional workforce entered into a MoU with the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) to work together to advance management education to the IT sector of Sri Lanka and to collaborate together on areas of common interest which will be mutually beneficial for both entities as well as the relevant stakeholders.
The Director of PIM Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage emphasized on the importance of such collaborations between postgraduate education institutes and industry bodies to enable the professionals to uplift their game by upskilling themselves. He further stressed on how PIM was open for such partnerships to enhance its contribution to the recovering economy of Sri Lanka.
Representing FITIS, Chairman Indika De Zoysa welcomed the move and commented on how FITIS looks forward to collaborate closely with PIM faculty members, students and more over wide network of alumni of students to realise Sri Lankas fullest potential in the Digital Economy.
Dr. Dayan Rajapakse Senior Vice Chairman FITIS another veteran in the Education sphere further enunciated on the need for ICT & digital technology education to be upgraded to meet the modern industry demands that would bolster the economy and how PIM could play a role in this endeavor in aligning its intervention to cater to the need of the hour.
Senior lecturer, Tharindu Ameresekere also briefed the delegation from FITIS on the recent array of professional skills development programmes being launched in the near future by PIM on the contemporary areas of corporate sustainability, digital transformation, ERP systems etc.
FITIS CEO Dinesh Sattrukalsinghe a PIM MBA alumnus who had been a driving force behind the MoU added that both the members of FITIS and their employees as well as PIM learning partners could benefit from this collaboration that connects an APEX body in the IT industry and the pioneer in management education in Sri Lanka.
The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) www.fitis.lk established in 1996 and functions as the apex body of the ICT industry in the country covering all major industry/technology verticals/segments. FITIS comprises of the following Chapters namely, Hardware Chapter, Software Chapter, Education Training Chapter, Communication Chapter, Digital Service Chapter, Professional Chapter, Office Automation Chapter and Professional Consultants Chapter. Member Organizations within the ICT Industry join FITIS based on their organizational focus(es) and contribute towards the super-ordinate strategy of each of the chapters, and each of the chapters in turn are aligned to deliver upon the super-ordinate promise to the ICT industry and Nation at large. FITIS is actively engaged in driving the Digital Agenda here in Sri Lanka via Digitalization and Digital Transformation thereby aiding in the fueling of the Digital Economy in Sri Lanka.
The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) www.pim.sjp.ac.lk established in 1986 by an Ordinance under the Universities Act 16 of 1978, is one of the eight postgraduate institutes in the university system of Sri Lanka.
