A new Governor to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka is to be appointed on the recommendation of Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, say government sources.
While Minister Ravi Karunanayake is currently on a visit to Japan, on inquiry by Ada Derana, his Parliamentary Secretary said that he would return to Sri Lanka on 04 July.
Accordingly, the Governor’s post is to be reportedly filled once he returns to the island.
The sources added that the names of Dr. Lalith Samarakoon, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and Charitha Ratwatte have already been recommended for the post of CB Governor.
According to the Monetary Board Act, the recommendation of the Finance Minister is essential to appoint a Governor to the Central Bank.
