Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs is to enter into the relevant agreements for obtaining the funds of US$ 200 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the implementation of the Integrated Road Investment Programme Phase III.
This ADB assisted programme is implemented to improve the road connectivity within selected rural centres by rehabilitating the national, provincial, local authority and feeder roads. This programme expects to rehabilitate 3,108 kilometres of rural roads and 248 kilometres of national roads at an estimated cost of US$ 906 million. US$ 800 million of the cost is borne by the ADB and the balance should be borne by the Government of Sri Lanka.
The project is implemented in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central and North Western Provinces and the Kaluthara District.
