Books of Hope- Join the Dengue Prevention Task Force

November, 22, 2016

Dengue has become a complex disease. During the last 10 months of 2016 alone, over 38,000 suspected dengue cases have been reported to the Epidemiology Unit, particularly from urban areas in Sri Lanka and over 30 people lost their lives in 2016. It affects, by large, a greater number of children and adolescents. Dengue has now evolved from a public health problem to a social problem in terms of the burden, but people hardly take any preventive action, unless it happens to them, or an immediate relative.

So how would you remind people to play their part before it's too late?

Books of Hope- a heart-touching campaign launched by the Colombo Municipal Council uses books left behind by dengue victims to give a powerful message to those who are reading it now. The timing of the campaign couldn't have been more apt, as it was launched on the 1st of October, where Sri Lankan's become even closer to books, marking the beginning of the national reading month while celebrating the World Children's and Elder's Day.

The timing of the campaign and communication tool has blended in so perfectly well to create something that will be ever so memorable- Books of Hope.
