Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Brandix i3, Dr. Jeanne Huddleston, addressed a cross section of distinguished guests on ‘The Role of Systems Engineering in Healthcare’ at an event hosted by Brandix i3 recently in Colombo.

Apart from being the CMO at Brandix i3, Dr. Huddleston is the Medical Director of Mayo Clinic’s Healthcare Systems Engineering Program. She is a Harvard Macy Scholar (Physician Educator and Leadership Programs) and most recently obtained a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

In her presentation, Dr. Huddleston stressed on the importance of converging IT and process solutions within healthcare to increase the quality of care delivered to patients. As a professional with a medical and engineering background, Dr. Huddleston re-iterated the importance of systems and how they must be intentionally designed to mitigate medical errors and improve patient safety in hospitals.

“Brandix i3 has designed, developed and deployed several industry leading software solutions for Patient Safety, Quality Compliance and Process Improvement,” said Dr. Jeanne Huddleston. She added “We need to improve our healthcare systems and reduce medical errors that can help save lives. The healthcare industry has many similarities to other industries and emulating best practices and patterns could help us understand how to better detect and mitigate error. We work in an industry that directly impacts people, and I’m certain that the intersection between systems engineering and clinical informatics is the way forward to saving lives.”

Chief Executive Officer of Brandix i3, Arjuna Sirinanda said, “The healthcare industry has seen vast changes over the years, propelled by technology. Brandix i3 is looking to further enable this wave of innovation in patient care and safety through the solutions we deliver. Together with clinicians and software and process experts, we are helping to increase the quality of patient care.”

He also added, “We work with leading hospitals in the US to develop solutions for their unique requirements. One of our solutions, the Brandix i3 Mortality Review System, is an enterprise quality and process improvement solution designed for hospitals and acute care facilities to identify systems frailties as they impact circumstances leading to death. We have licensed this solution from a large healthcare facility in the Midwest, US, and have commercialized it.”
