The overall hydro power generation capacity of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has increased up to 52% due to the rainy conditions over the island.
CEB chairman W.B. Ganegala told adaderanabiz.lk that the CEB’s power generation through diesel has decreased since 25% of the CEB’s total power generation is currently being generated through coal.
“Yesterday, (17 August) we obtained only 03% of the total power generation of the CEB from the electricity generated through diesel by privately owned power plants.4,” added Ganegala.
Three months earlier the CEB’s hydro-generation capacity was as low as 15% due to the prevailing drought conditions in the island.
The CEB has to incur heavy losses due to thermal power generation using diesel.
