The government is preparing to update the Western Zone Development Plan prepared in 2004 to develop the Greater Colombo area and the Western Zone and embark on the next stage of implementing it.

Cabinet approval has been granted to a proposal by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in this regard. This proposal is to make transform the Western Zone and Colombo into an attractive city and a financial and business hub in the region.

The proposal also states that it is the responsibility of the government to provide the guidance for the development of the Colombo city under this plan.
