CWIT’s First Batch of Automated CRMG Cranes Arrive at Colombo Port: A New Era of Productivity and Growth

Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), in the Port of Colombo has marked a significant milestone with the arrival of the first batch of 5 automated CRMG cranes. This development heralds a new era of enhanced productivity and operational efficiency for Sri Lanka’s busiest and most strategic maritime hub. These state-of-the-art cranes are not only set to transform the cargo handling capabilities of the port but also to further boost its global ranking among leading maritime destinations. Featuring cutting-edge automation, increased lifting capacities, and extended outreach, the double cantilever CRMGs can lift 41 MT under spreader, stacking containers 6 high (+1), have a span of 36.5 meters, and are 12 containers wide; and impressively can service traffic from both sides.

These cranes are a critical component of CWIT’s broader strategy to integrate modern technology into the Port of Colombo, positioning it as a competitive transshipment hub in South Asia.
