The Hambantota International Port Group (HIP) was honoured as one of Sri Lanka’s most outstanding Women Friendly Workplaces at the Women Friendly Workplace Awards 2024. The Women Friendly Workplace Awards, organised by leading women's magazine Satyn in collaboration with AICPA & CIMA, recognized more than 30 companies across various industries for their efforts in promoting gender equality in the workplace.
Evaluation criteria for the award included several critical factors i.e. Training and development opportunities for women; recruitment strategies prioritising diversity; equal pay; composition of board of directors and senior management; overall workforce diversity; measures to ensure freedom from violence, abuse, and sexual harassment; and commitment to workplace safety
At HIP, we are particularly proud of our pioneering initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the port and terminal industry, which is traditionally dominated by men. Our efforts to create a more inclusive workplace have not only transformed our organisation but also set a precedent in an industry that’s often resistant to change. This recognition by Satyn magazine, reinforces our commitment to empowering women and promoting diversity within our workforce.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all employees for their dedication and hard work, which has made this achievement possible. While we continue our journey towards creating a more equitable and supportive work environment for all, we plan on taking greater strides to create a more inclusive future at HIP.
