IMF Chief to visit Gampola today to assess Cyclone Ditwah damage

The IMF Managing Director and a delegation, who arrived in the country to observe firsthand the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah and its impact, are scheduled to visit the Gampola area this morning (17).

Later in Colombo, discussions are scheduled with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe, and other representatives. Special attention will be given to the assistance that the IMF can provide to Sri Lanka in rebuilding after the disaster and in strengthening the nation’s long-term resilience.

A special delegation led by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva arrived on the island last afternoon (16) for a three-day official visit.

The delegation was received at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning.
