Inflation increases to 5% in September

Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI) , accelerated to 5.0% in September 2019 from 3.4%  in August 2019, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.

The CCPI for all items for the month of September 2019 was 131.1 and it records an increase of 1.0 index points that is 0.75% points compared to the month of August 2019 for which the index was 130.1. This represents an increase of expenditure value by Rs.592.42 in the “Market Basket”.

For the month of September 2019, on year‐to‐year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 0.92 %. The contribution of Non Food items was 4.04%.

The moving average inflation rate for the month of September 2019 was 3.9%. The corresponding rate for the month of August 2019 was 3.8%.
