The government is preparing to develop and increase the efficiency of Sri Lanka’s power generation and distribution network through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Sri Lanka’s power and energy requirements continue to rise by about 05 to 07 per cent annually and this would continue further with the island’s economic development.
Hence, the government says that while taking steps to increase power generation, the distribution network has to be strengthened by minimizing the wastage during distribution so as to provided uninterrupted and quality assured power supply to the people.
This project is aimed at implementing this and JICA has expressed its willingness to provide a loan of Rs. 26.8 billion through the Japanese government.
The government has decided to sign the relevant agreement in the near future.
