According to date released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the significant feature is the highest increase in the number of tourist arrivals into Sri Lanka in 2014 being from China.

Among the approximate 1.5 million tourists to Sri Lanka, 128,166 have been from China, which is an increase of 136.1 per cent compared to 2013.

The Chinese arrivals to Sri Lanka in 2013 were 54,288.

While China has been the third country from where the highest number of tourists have visited Sri Lanka last year, India occupies first place and England the second.

Nearly 1.2 million tourists had arrived in Sri Lanka during 2013 and compared to this the arrivals in 2014 has increased nearly by 19.8 per cent.
