LAUGFS Eco Sri, a pioneer in Vehicle Emission Testing in Sri Lanka, once again demonstrated their commitment to giving back to the community by contributing to the water purification efforts in selected schools. The LAUGFS Eco Sri team started the New Year by continuing their philanthropic efforts, providing a water purification system for the benefit of the students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalala, Kebithigollewa, in the North Central Province.

With an investment of over one million rupees, this project also provided 235 deserving students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya with essential stationery items and school bags for the new school year, in addition to the water purification system.

“LAUGFS Eco Sri is committed to giving back to the society through our various community development initiatives.  Chronic Kidney Disease is a prevalent issue in these areas due to the consumption of unpurified water, which contains high levels of contaminants. Therefore we wanted to provide this water purification solution to the students of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya, in the hope that it will help to improve their health, reduce the risk of falling ill, and contribute to their overall well-being. Our hope is that this initiative will provide teachers and parents with the peace of mind knowing that the children are able to consume purified, safe drinking water at school,” said LAUGFS Eco Sri Deputy General Manager – Operations, Mr. Saliya Dissanayake.

Each year, LAUGFS Eco Sri conducts a number of community development programmes based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This project, which is directly linked to the sustainable development goal number six of providing clean water and sanitation to all, is funded by fundraising efforts from the Company, as well as through the sale of items at the island-wide network of Vehicle Emission Testing Centers. This unique model allows Eco Sri customers across the island to become stakeholders of these worthy initiatives.

The donation was concluded recently with the participation of Mr. Dissanayake and other senior members of the LAUGFS Eco Sri team. The event was enriched by several beautiful performances highlighting the talents of the children of Gonuhathdenawa Vidyalaya.
