Legal action if no price tags in vehicle, land sale advertisements

May, 11, 2015

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has introduced regulations making it mandatory for vehicle and land sale advertisements over the media (print, electronic) to carry the prices of the particular vehicle or land is to be sold at.

CAA Director General J.M.A. Douglas told www.adaderanabiz.lk that the correct price of the vehicle or land to be sold must be indicated and that this regulation is to protect the consumers from middlemen.

“This regulation is not only for vehicle and land sales. This is common to all advertisements for the sale of houses, electronic equipment etc. If this regulation is violated the Consumer Affairs Authority will take legal action against them,” added Mr. Douglas.

He also said that though in most instances the prices are indicated when other goods are to be sold this is rarely done in the sale of vehicles and land.
