MAC Group MD Andre Fernando Appointed SLFFA Chairman

March, 18, 2026

Andre Fernando, Group Managing Director of MAC Group, has assumed duties as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association (SLFFA) with effect from March 6, 2026.

Andre Fernando, who previously served as Vice Chairman of SLFFA, brings more than three decades of experience in the logistics and supply chain industry to his new role. His appointment reflects the confidence placed in his leadership and industry expertise by the Association’s membership. This was specially displayed when he won the election of treasurer in 2021 to come on board as official. He thanks all those who voted for him.

Commenting on his appointment, he stated that it is with great honor and a deep sense of responsibility that he assumes duties as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association. He is grateful for the confidence placed in him by the members and looks forward to serving the Association and the wider logistics community during this important phase of growth and transformation for industry.

He comes to this high position when there is a ongoing war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has rapidly escalated into a global crisis because it directly affects energy supplies, global trade routes, financial markets, and humanitarian systems. What began with large‑scale U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran in late February 2026 has expanded into a regional war across the Middle East, with worldwide economic and security consequences.

Iran has retaliated against U.S. and Israeli strikes with missile and drone attacks targeting military bases and infrastructure across Israel, the Gulf states, Iraq, and Lebanon, drawing multiple countries into the conflict. Iranian‑aligned groups, including Hezbollah and the Houthis, have intensified attacks, raising fears of a multi‑front Middle East war. Airspace closures and attacks near major cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi have underscored how the conflict now threatens civilian and commercial hub

He noted that Sri Lanka’s logistics and freight forwarding sector plays a critical role in facilitating international trade and supporting the national economy. He emphasized the importance of strengthening industry capabilities, embracing technological innovation, and maintaining high professional standards to ensure global competitiveness.

The global logistics sector is currently experiencing rapid transformation driven by digitalization, technological innovation, and evolving supply chain demands. As such, he highlighted the importance of adopting modern logistics technologies, enhancing operational efficiency, and investing in industry talent to ensure Sri Lanka remains competitive in the global trade environment.

Established in 1981, SLFFA represents more than 190 leading freight forwarding and logistics companies operating in Sri Lanka. Over the past four decades, the Association has played a significant role in the development and professionalization of the country’s logistics and freight forwarding industry.

Under his leadership, the Association is expected to continue advocating for industry modernization, digital transformation in logistics processes, strengthened trade facilitation mechanisms, and closer collaboration between the private sector and government stakeholders providing much required solutions to the issues faced due to the middle east war.

MAC congratulates Andre on this appointment and looks forward to his continued contribution toward strengthening Sri Lanka’s logistics and freight forwarding sector.
