N.R. Gajendran to deliver ‘Shelton Wirasinha Oration’ hosted by Wesley College

As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations this year, Wesley College Colombo will host the ‘Shelton Wirasinha Oration’ at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 06th March 2024 at the College Hall.

The Oration will be delivered by distinguished old boy of the College and well-renowned tax specialist N.R. Gajendran, and, is open to the public.

With his 21 year tenure as Principal of Wesley College from 1962-1983, Arthur Shelton Wirasinha goes on record as being the second longest serving Principal of the College after Revd. Henry Highfield.

A product of Richmond College, Galle, Shelton Wirasinha, better known as ‘ASW’, touched the hearts and lives of tens of thousands of students who passed through the portals of Wesley College.

Now spread across Sri Lanka, and all over the world, they fondly remember him with great respect and deep gratitude even to this day.

“A truly fitting tribute to this great educationist, this annual Oration is an event where members of the Wesley fraternity, past and present, together with friends and well-wishers gather to reminisce ‘neath the Double Blue in an ambiance of great nostalgia”, says Wesley College Principal Avanka Fernando.

N.R. Gajendran was educated at Wesley College where he also vice-captained First XI cricket

Chartered Accountant and Founding and Senior Partner of Gajma & Co, he has concentrated immensely in the field Tax and Fiscal matters for well over 40 years and is considered one of Sri Lanka’s foremost Tax Specialists

Chairman of the International Fiscal Association (Sri Lanka Branch), he is also former Chairman of the Tax Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and a former Council Member of CA Sri Lanka

Past Rotary District Governor of Sri Lanka, he delivered the inaugural oration of CA Sri Lanka and was a Member of the Revenue Authority of Sri Lanka

He is a sought after speaker and has been interviewed many times over by the media for his independent opinion.
