October, 22, 2024

Neptune Recyclers, a forerunner in Sri Lanka’s sustainability landscape, is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), under USAID’s Oceans Plastics Reduction Activity. This partnership will improve waste collection systems, enhance recycling capabilities, and foster collaboration between public and private sectors in support of USAID's broader efforts across Sri Lanka and the Maldives to reduce ocean plastic pollution and strengthen waste management systems.

Plastic waste represents one of Sri Lanka’s most pressing environmental issues, and Neptune Recyclers has been at the forefront of sustainable initiatives aimed at mitigating pollution and promoting a circular economy. The company’s commitment to transforming waste management has earned tremendous trust in the industry. The partnership with the United States through USAID adds a significant international dimension to the company’s work and aligns with the shared vision of sustainable development held by both organisations.

The aim of the partnership is to create a more robust infrastructure for plastic waste collection and recycling across the country. Through the combined expertise of both organisations, the initiative will introduce innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste and prevent it from entering waterways and the ocean. The initiative will operate in both local and rural areas to improve access to recycling facilities and ensure that plastic waste is processed efficiently.

Additionally, this initiative will provide crucial economic benefits by creating livelihood opportunities, particularly for marginalised and underprivileged communities. The programme will help empower these communities to engage in a circular economy and foster a sense of pride in contributing to a national cause. Furthermore, by strengthening partnerships between private and public sectors, the collaboration will not only help boost Neptune’s recycling capabilities, but also solidify the company’s position as a leader in promoting sustainability across the island.

With Neptune’s well-established reputation and USAID’s global credibility, this partnership is a shining example of the power of collaborative action to address critical environmental issues. Neptune Recyclers continues to lead the promotion of sustainability in Sri Lanka, driving both environmental stewardship and economic growth.
