The interchange of the Colombo Outer Circular Highway constructed near the Athurugiriya town would be opened along with the opening of the Kaduwela-Kadawatha stretch of the expressway, said a spokesman from the Ministry of Highways.

The distance from this spot to Kadawatha is 15 kilometres while to Matara it is 138 kilometres.

The nine kilometre stretch of this highway from Kaduwela to Kadawatha is to be declared open by Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella this evening (17 September).

With the opening of this stretch, the Southern Expressway directly connects Matara and Kadawatha.

The Colombo Outer Circular Highway would be extended up to Katunayake in the near future.
