SLIIT and CIPM Sri Lanka sign landmark MOU to nurture future leaders in the practice of human resource management

SLIIT, Sri Lanka’s largest non-state degree awarding institute and CIPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently, with the aim of nurturing future leaders in the practice of human resource management creating better workplaces for tomorrow.

The MOU was signed on 03 July 2020, by Mr. Dhammika Fernando, President CIPM Sri Lanka and Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda, Dean, SLIIT Business School in the presence of Dr. Neil Bogahalande, Council Member, CIPM and Chairman-Academic and Professional Affairs Committee, Mr. U.A.C. Obeyesekere, Acting Chief Executive Officer, CIPM and Prof. Nagalingam Nagendrakumar, Head, Department of Information Management SLIIT Business School.

Ms. Chalani Kuruppu, Senior Lecturer, SLIIT Business School, Mr. Ranitha Weerarathna, Senior Lecturer, SLIIT Business School, Ms. Anupama Dassanayake, Senior Lecturer, SLIIT Business School, Mr. G. Weerathunge, Chief Officer and Director, Professional & Academic Affairs CIPM, Mr. Indika Wijayasriwardana, Chief Manager, Shared Services, CIPM, in addition to other officials from both institutions were also in attendance.

This historical MOU aims to expand the horizons of students and share a common objective to enhance the effectiveness of HR professionals by providing comprehensive resources and partnering them with business leaders and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Dhammika Fernando, President, CIPM said, “We are delighted to enter into this landmark agreement with Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, a highly acclaimed and leading institute in the higher education sphere. Despite turbulent times, we believe such a partnership is timely and provides an exciting opportunity as CIPM and SLIIT share common interests in advancing the development of human capital.”

Under the MOU, CIPM will provide exemptions from the Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management (PQHRM) and Chartered Qualification in Human Resource Management (CQHRM) to the Bachelor of Business Administration graduates in Human Capital Management (HCM) Degree Programme of the SLIIT Business School. Likewise, the SLIIT Business School will provide exemptions from the BBA HCM Special Degree to students who have fully completed the PQHRM Qualification (English medium only) and also accept the complete PQHRM qualification with two years’ post qualifying experience as an entry qualification for the MBA programme conducted by SLIIT.

Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda-Dean, SLIIT Business School noted, “This MOU marks a milestone for SLIIT as we commence our collaboration with CIPM which as Sri Lanka’s leading institute for human resource management plays an important role in advancing the professionalisation of HR practice in the country. Our collaboration will ensure students from both institutes optimise their effectiveness in today’s competitive global environment.”
