Sri Lanka Culinary Journey adds flavor to the Shanghai festivity

Consulate General of Sri Lanka, in association with the Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai, successfully concluded the first Sri Lankan Food Festival held from 9 to 13 February 2026, on the sidelines of the celebrations to commemorate the 78th Anniversary of the National Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Majintha Jayesinghe, together with the Consul General in Shanghai, Pamoda Gooneratne and Vice President (Operations) of the Hotel, Yilmaz Sinan launched the 5-day Food Festival, amid a large gathering comprised of celebrities, media personnel and food lovers.

Sri Lankan Chef Neshan Appuhamy turned the Sri Lankan foods into an array of mouth-watering delicacies with his expertise in traditional culinary art, by blending with authentic spices & condiments, ranging from Rice, Roti, Koththu, Sea food (Crab, Fish, Prawns), Nuts and Vegetables; and also featuring traditional Desserts - such as ‘Kiri – Peni’ (Buffalo milk-curd with Honey) and local drinks like ‘Kola Kenda’ (Herbal porridge), Iced Tea and other novel beverages made with Ceylon Tea .

Arranged colorfully at the YiCafé of the Pudong Shangri-La giving prominence to Sri Lankan traditions, it not only attracted Chinese who were getting ready to welcome the ‘New Year of the Horse’, but also increasing numbers of food lovers from all regions of the globe each day enjoying the festive season in Shanghai. They had a rare privilege to experience the taste of Sri Lankan cuisine abundantly as well as to enjoy mesmerizing performances by the dancers of the Channa-Upuli Performing Arts, in a true Sri Lankan ambience in Shanghai.
