Sri Lanka Discusses Possibility of Manufacturing Cars in collaboration with Germany

German Ambassador for Sri Lanka His Excellency Jergen Morhard has met Hon. Dr. Harsha De Silva, Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs. At this meeting the German Ambassador has stated that Germany looks forward to becoming a friendly partner in Sri Lanka’s economic development.

Hon. Dr. Harsha de Silva expressed Sri Lanka’s readiness to join hands with a country of immense capacity for industrial technology like Germany.

Volkswagen of Germany is the second largest car manufacturer in the world. Ambassador His Excellency Jergen Morhard stated that lthough this company had strived since 2008 to start up a business to manufacture cars in Sri Lanka for export, it did not succeed for various reasons.

In response to this, the Deputy Minister stated that such businesses will be the hope of the new government. He also stated that households will develop through such gigantic projects, creating jobs that pay high wages, and lead to income enhancement in the family unit. He further said that the government is always ready to have discussions on starting up such projects here.
